Bio & Contact

Always drawing and creating, Heather’s artistic endeavours were encouraged throughout her childhood years, and it was that aspect of her that defined what she should do early on. Heather has always interpreted the art behind an object before its use…the colour, its texture, the space it occupies, the shape and size of a thing relative to its surroundings.

Heather studied Visual Arts throughout high school and upon applying to the University of Guelph, she opted to study Fine Arts, with minor in Art History. She completed the degree for a year, and then for the following three years switched her area of focus, earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Family & Child Studies. Content with her success in that area of study, Heather missed Visual Arts enormously and successfully graduated with an Undergraduate degree but had deep regrets about leaving her artistic life behind.

Following a year abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she earned a Merit in Teaching for Primary & Junior Education, Heather taught public school for nearly a decade, primarily as a Middle School Teacher. Always longing to use her artistic side, she often taught art, and organized the visually creative aspects of school life.

It was not until her youngest child was in school, 5 years after leaving her full-time teaching career, and almost two decades after her University life, that Heather welcomed art back into her life, acknowledging that art was the one thing that she needed and did not have. Now, Heather paints to guide her emotions, to understand, but mostly to be connected to her soul and her profound need to express. Heather’s artwork is boldly colourful, and is often applied using trowels to add texture and visual interest. Her large-scale work relies heavily on blues and green, with saturated accents of orange and pink typically applied as focal points on the canvas. It is expressive and dynamic, and communicates the journey of a woman working through her life at each beautiful stage.
